Labeling solutions for the medical industry

COVID-19 has permanently changed the global medical industry. It has not only accelerated the adoption of new technologies and care delivery models and sharpened the focus on sustainability and resilience; it has also worsened existing workforce challenges and the global gap in healthcare equity.
Since 2021, the State Council, the leading group on healthcare reform and the National Health Commission have all made arrangements to deepen reform of the pharmaceutical and healthcare system and keep the new mechanisms working soundly. For 2022 and the period ahead, the main direction of healthcare reform is to deepen the Sanming model, adhere to the “three-medicine linkage” of medical services, medical insurance and medicines, allocate medical resources rationally, regulate medicine prices, and fully motivate medical staff through pay, career development and working environment. Reform also covers centralized volume-based procurement of drugs and consumables, gradually expanding the scope of procurement and strengthening procurement and inventory management in medical institutions to meet centralized volume-based procurement requirements. Following the path of freeing up room, adjusting structure and ensuring continuity, the reform standardizes diagnosis and treatment, lowers drug and consumable costs, adjusts medical service prices reasonably, advances pay system reform and promotes innovation and sound development in the pharmaceutical industry.
For China’s medical device industry this is both a new opportunity and a new adjustment. Making pharmaceutical packaging automated is also an important part of medical device reform and innovation.
In response, Wanzhi developed a series of automated labeling machines matched to medical devices. Below we introduce them one by one:
1. Automatic flat-surface labeling machine
Developed for labeling pharmaceutical packaging boxes, it uses flat-surface labeling with a pneumatic cylinder stop for greater stability and higher labeling efficiency; a bottle separating mechanism can be added to save more labor and raise labeling efficiency. An optional coder or inkjet printer can be fitted to the labeling head to print production dates, batch numbers, barcodes and other information on the label.
2. Box sealing tamper-evident label applicator

Dedicated to two-corner sealing labels on medicine boxes: labels are applied across the corner where the top face and side face meet at each end of the box, and a tamper-evident label prevents the box from being opened. It can be connected directly to an upstream production line, feeding automatically into the labeling machine for higher efficiency. An optional ribbon coder labeling unit can print production dates and batch numbers inline, reducing bottle packaging steps and improving production efficiency.
3. Automatic horizontal round-bottle labeling machine
Developed for small round tubes and small round bottles such as blood collection tubes and oral liquid bottles. It uses horizontal conveying and horizontal labeling with a pneumatic cylinder stop for greater stability and higher labeling efficiency; a bottle separating mechanism can be added to save more labor and raise labeling efficiency. An optional coder or inkjet printer can be fitted to the labeling head to print production dates, batch numbers, barcodes and other information on the label. An optional inkjet printer on the conveyor can print production dates, batch numbers, barcodes and other information on the product before or after labeling.
4. Real-time print-and-apply labeling machine for infusion bottles
The WZ-600 real-time print-and-apply labeling machine for infusion bottles meets the labeling needs of round infusion bottles, flexible infusion bags, stand-up pouches and other products at the same time, so changing the packaging does not mean changing the labeling machine. It connects to a database and prints and applies labels to match each product’s information, ensuring that the product information is unique; the labeling head rises and lowers automatically according to product specifications, making operation simple and intuitive;
Pharmaceutical products are made in large volumes and label information is specific to each product, so having people label and inspect them by hand is clearly impractical. Wanzhi labeling machines are matched to real production: they work inline with the product line and integrate inline inspection, printing and labeling in one process. This saves both money and effort. For the pharmaceutical industry the greatest needs are speed and stability, and the range of automatic labeling machines Wanzhi developed for the pharmaceutical industry fully meets those needs.
