Real-time print-and-apply labeling machine for washing machines

The washing machine print-and-apply labeling machine is an integrated on-demand print-and-apply system developed by Wanzhi Automation for home appliance manufacturing. It combines real-time printing of variable information with automatic label application into a single process, generating and applying labels for model, serial number, barcode/QR code, and energy efficiency rating directly on the washing machine housing (side panels, top cover, rear nameplate area, etc.). This replaces the conventional approach of "printing labels in batches and then applying them one by one by hand";

Product details

The washing machine print-and-apply labeling machine is an integrated on-demand printing and labeling machine developed by Wanzhi Automation for the manufacturing of complete household appliances. It combines real-time printing of variable information with automatic label application into a single step, generating and applying labels for model, serial number, barcode/QR code and energy label directly on the washing machine housing (side panels, top cover, rear nameplate area and so on). This replaces the conventional practice of pre-printing labels in batches and then applying them one by one by hand. Built around conveyor-linked operation and combined with a print engine and labeling actuator, the machine applies labels as the finished unit moves off the line, so no separate labor or floor space is needed for marking. Its core value: label data is generated in real time from production data, enabling accurate traceability of one code per machine and one code per item, while the manual labeling step is removed from the line, reducing mislabeling, missed labels and efficiency bottlenecks. For complete-appliance manufacturers, this is not just a labeling machine but a key link in the plant’s digital traceability system, turning the label into a data carrier that systems can read and trace.

Application value: once the equipment is in place, it brings direct benefits in three areas. Efficiency: labeling is completed automatically within the line, reducing manual stations and waiting time, with a tighter takt. Lower cost: pre-printed label inventory and manual labeling labor are removed, cutting material and labor costs. Quality and compliance: one code per item enables full traceability, and markings are clear and standardized, meeting the household appliance industry’s compliance requirements for energy labels and serial number traceability.

Working principle and process flow

The machine’s working logic can be summarized as a five-stage closed loop: data generation, print output, pick-up positioning, inline application and verification. All actions are automatically synchronized with the line takt, run as soon as the product is in position with no pause or waiting, and keep pace with the whole line:

  1. Data generation:the host system generates variable information such as model, serial number, and barcode for the current unit in real time according to orders or production scheduling instructions, and sends it to the print engine;
  2. Print output:the print engine outputs the information onto the label by thermal transfer or direct thermal printing, so that each label corresponds one-to-one with its product;
  3. Pickup and positioning:based on the product-in-position signal, the labeling mechanism moves the applicator head into place, completing label peeling and positioning of the application angle;
  4. Inline application:whether the conveyor is running or stationary, the label is pressed precisely onto the housing surface at the set position;
  5. Verification:sensors or a vision unit verify label presence, position, and content, and raise an alarm with handling instructions when an abnormality occurs.

Key features

  • 1. Real-time variable data printing: model, serial number, date and batch code, barcode, QR code, energy label, and other information are generated on demand, one code per item, with no duplication or mixing of numbers;
  • 2. Multi-position labeling: suits side and top labeling positions on washing machine housings, in either static or inline linked mode;
  • 3. Data integration and traceability: it connects to line MES and ERP systems and stores labeling information bound to production data for after-the-fact traceability and quality audits;
  • 4. Stable cycle integration: motions match the conveyor line cycle automatically, with no jams or waiting in continuous production, meeting the fast takt times of appliance lines;
  • 5. Fast changeover: label specifications, labeling position, and printed content can all be adjusted quickly for mixed-model production.
